การออกแบบระบบ LMIS ใช้สถาปัตยกรรม Client/Server ซึ่งเป็นเทคโนโลยีที่ได้รับความนิยมอยู่ในขณะนั้น มีการวางระบบฐานข้อมูลหรือ Database Server หลักอยู่ที่ส่วนกลาง คือ ศกบ.กบ.ทอ. จำนวน 1 ระบบฐานข้อมูล เพื่อสำหรับเก็บข้อมูลที่เป็นมาตรฐานและต้องใช้งานร่วมกันทุกหน่วยงาน มีการวางระบบฐานข้อมูลอยู่ที่หน่วยงานระดับคลังใหญ่ จำนวน 10 ระบบฐานข้อมูล แยกตามความรับผิดชอบของแต่ละคลังใหญ่ เพื่อจัดเก็บข้อมูลที่คลังใหญ่รับผิดชอบ และวางระบบฐานข้อมูลอยู่ที่กองบินอีก 12 ระบบฐานข้อมูล เพื่อเก็บข้อมูลหลักของแต่ละกองบิน การเชื่อมต่อระบบฐานข้อมูลจะเชื่อมต่อแบบ Distributed Database โดยใช้เครือข่ายกองทัพอากาศเป็นหลักในการดำเนินการ
