เมื่อวันที่ 12-26 ตุลาคม 2550 ที่ผ่

เมื่อวันที่ 12-26 ตุลาคม 2550 ที่ผ่านมา ข้าพเจ้าร่วมกับคณะผู้บริหารห้องสมุดจากมหาวิทยาลัยอีก 6 แห่ง ได้มีโอกาสเดินทางไปดูงานห้องสมุด ณ รัฐ New York รัฐ Ohio และรัฐ Washington DC ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ห้องสมุดที่ได้เยี่ยมชมมีทั้งหมด 11 แห่ง เป็นห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย 6 แห่ง ห้องสมุดประชาชน 3 แห่ง และ องค์กรที่ให้บริการทางด้านสารสนเทศอีก 2 แห่ง ซึ่งในที่นี่จะขอกล่าวถึงเฉพาะห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยและห้องสมุดประชาชนเท่านั้น

ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยที่ได้ไปเยี่ยมชมทั้ง 6 แห่งนั้น ทั้งหมดอยู่ในรัฐ Ohio ได้แก่
1. Bierce Library, The University of Akron เมือง Akron
2. Libraries and Media Services, Kent State University เมือง Kent
3. Ackerman Library, The Ohio State University เมือง Columbus
4. Science and Engineering Library, The Ohio State University เมือง Columbus
5. William H. Doane Library & Seeley G. Mudd Learning Center, Denison

6. Courtright Memorial Library, Otterbein College เมือง Westerville

การจัดให้บริการสื่อ/อุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์เพื่อส่งเสริมการศึกษา ค้นคว้าและการเรียนรู้ นับเป็นอีกสิ่งหนึ่งที่ห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยต่างจัดหามาให้กับผู้ใช้ของตน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นคอมพิวเตอร์ อินเทอร์เน็ต เครื่องสแกนเนอร์ เครื่องพิมพ์ผล สื่อโสตทัศนวัสดุต่างๆ ที่นอกจากจะมีบริการให้ใช้ภายในห้องสมุดแล้ว บางแห่งยังมีบริการให้ยืมออกไปใช้ภายนอกด้วย โดยเฉพาะที่ Libraries and Media Services ของ Kent University ที่เน้นสภาพแวดล้อมที่ผู้เรียนเป็นศูนย์กลาง ซึ่งนอกจากจะมีห้องเรียนไว้ให้บริการเหมือนห้องสมุดอื่นๆ แล้ว ยังเน้นการจัดให้บริการสื่อโสตทัศน์ต่างๆ เพื่อใช้ในการนำเสนอในการเรียนการสอนในห้องเรียนทั้งสำหรับอาจารย์ผู้สอนและนักศึกษาอีกด้วย ที่ Science and Engineering Library ของ The Ohio State University ก็มีห้อง Digital Union ที่จัดไว้สำหรับการสอน/แนะนำวิธีการสร้างสื่อการเรียนการสอนต่างๆ ให้น่าสนใจยิ่งขึ้นด้วยเทคโนโลยีทางคอมพิวเตอร์
