งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาการออกแบบอาคารประหยัดพลังงานกรณีศึกษา อาคารวิทยาลัยพลังงานทดแทน มหาวิทยาลัยแม่โจ้ (Green building) เป็นลักษณะการสร้างอาคารประหยัดพลังงาน ซึ่งปัจจุบันมีเทคนิคที่ช่วยลดพลังงานไฟฟ้าอย่างแพร่หลาย กอปรกับปัจจัยสิ่งแวดล้อมที่เปลี่ยนแปลงส่งผลต่อการบริโภคพลังงานให้เพิ่มขึ้น งานวิจัยนี้ได้มุ่นเน้นการออกแบบอาคารเพื่อลดพลังงานใน 2 ระบบคือ (1) ระบบ Green roof เป็นการลดพลังงานความร้อนที่เข้าสู่ตัวอาคารด้านหลังคา ลักษณะหลังคาที่มีฉนวนกันความร้อนผนวกกับการใช้พืชสกุล Sedum เพิ่มชั้นกันความร้อน และ (2) ระบบแสงสว่าง เป็นการเปลี่ยนหลอดประหยัดพลังงาน T5 และ T8 เป็นหลอดประหยัดพลังงาน LED นำทั้ง 2 ระบบ มาปรับใช้กับอาคารวิทยาลัยพลังงานทดแทน มหาวิทยาลัยแม่โจ้ หาอัตราการประหยัดพลังงานและประเมินระยะเวลาคืนทุนด้านพลังงานจากการศึกษาพบว่าระบบ Green roof และระบบแสงสว่างช่วยประหยัดพลังงาน 201,680.36 Baht/y และมีระยะเวลาคืนทุน 1 year 2 month
