ประวัติ
หลวงสินธุสงครามชัย เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 23 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2444 ที่ตำบลบ้านท่าจีน อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดสมุทรสาคร เป็นบุตรนายเล็ก-นางจู กมลนาวิน และมีศักดิ์เป็นน้องชายของพระยาราชวังสัน (ศรี กมลนาวิน) จบการศึกษาที่โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัยเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2457 จากนั้นเป็นนักเรียนหลวงไปเรียนการทหารเรือที่ประเทศเดนมาร์ก เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2462 เป็นเวลาถึง 10 ปี จากการที่เป็นน้องชายของพระยาราชวังสัน ซึ่งเป็นธรรมเนียมของครอบครัวทหารเรือในขณะนั้น ที่ทางรัฐบาลส่งเสริมให้บุตรชายคนโตของนายพลทหารเรือให้ได้รับทุนเล่าเรียนวิชาทหารเรือยังต่างประเทศ เพื่อส่งเสริมให้เป็นทหารเรือกัน เนื่องจากพระยาราชวังสันไม่มีบุตร จึงสนับสนุนน้องชายตนเอง
