ดอยเชียงดาว อยู่ในเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าดอยเชียงดาว อำเภอเชียงดาว ยอดสูงสุดของดอยเชียงดาว เรียกว่า ดอยหลวงเชียงดาว (เพี้ยนมาจากคำที่ชาวบ้านในละแวกเปรียบเทียบดอยนี้ว่าสูง เพียงดาว) มีลักษณะเป็นภูเขาหินปูนรูปกรวยคว่ำสูง 2,195 เมตร จากระดับน้ำทะเล นับเป็นยอดดอยที่สูงอันดับ 3 ของประเทศรองจากดอยอินทนนท์และผ้าห่มปก

จากบนยอดดอยซึ่งเป็นที่ราบแคบ ๆ สามารถมองเห็นทัศนียภาพอันงดงามรอบด้าน คือ ทะเลหมอกด้านอำเภอเชียงดาว ดอยสามพี่น้อง เทือกดอยเชียงดาว ตลอดจนถึงยอดดอยอินทนนท์อันไกลลิบ อากาศเย็น ลมแรง และสมบูรณ์ด้วยดอกไม้ป่าภูเขาที่หาชมได้ยากมากมาย รวมทั้งนกและผีเสื้อด้วย (ไม่เหมาะที่จะขึ้นไปยืนบนยอดดอยทีละกลุ่มใหญ่ ๆ เพราะจะไปเหยียบย่ำทำลายพรรณไม้บนนั้นได้ แม้จะโดยไม่ตั้งใจก็ตาม)
