ประเทศบรูไนไม่มีการศึกษาภาคบังคับ แต่รัฐให้การศึกษาแก่ประชาชนเพื่อมุ่งพัฒนาให้มีความสามารถด้านสติปัญญาและมีความสุข และให้เรียนโดยไม่มีค่าใช้จ่าย บรูไนใช้ทั้งภาษามลายูและภาษาอังกฤษสอนเด็กตั้งแต่ชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 4 โดยใช้ภาษามลายูสอนวิชาความรู้เกี่ยวกับศาสนาอิสลาม พลศึกษา ศิลปะ ส่วนภาษาอังกฤษใช้สอนวิชาหลัก วิทยาศาสตร์ คณิตศาสตร์ เป็นต้น
ระดับการศึกษา

ประเทศบรูไนแบ่งการศึกษาออกเป็น 6 ระดับ ซึ่งจะจัดสรรตามกลุ่มอายุ และระดับการศึกษาจากขั้นพื้นฐาน จนถึงการศึกษาในระดับสูง
ระดับปฐมวัย
การศึกษาระดับปฐมวัยเริ่มต้นจากการศึกษาในเกรด 1 ซึ่งเป็นการศึกษาระดับชั้นพื้นฐานของนักเรียนที่สามารถเข้าสู่ระบบการศึกษาได้ โดยระบบการศึกษาปฐมวัยมีทั้งหมด 7 ระดับ ตั้งแต่ช่วงอายุ 6 ปี ถึง 13 ปี ครอบคลุมระยะเวลา 7 ปี โดยการเลื่อนเกรดนั้นจะทดสอบนักเรียนโดย การทำข้อสอบระดับชาติเพื่อรับประกาศนียบัตรชั้นต้นที่เรียกว่า Primary Certificate of Education Examination (PCE) ในแต่ละช่วงระดับการศึกษา

ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย
เป็นช่วงการศึกษาที่สูงขึ้นมาจากมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นครับ โดยเริ่มจากเกรด 11 ถึง เกรด 12 ช่วงอายุนักเรียนจะอยู่ระหว่าง 15-17 ปี ผู้ผ่านการศึกษาระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายของประเทศบรูไน จะได้รับประกาศนียบัตร “O Level” หรือ General Certificate of Education Examination “GCE “O” Level”
วิทยาลัยเทคนิคและโรงเรียนอาชีวศึกษา
ประเทศบรูไนมีวิทยาลัยเทคนิคและโรงเรียนอาชีวศึกษาส่วนใหญ่สอนทางด้าน พยาบาลศาสตร์ การเกษตร และหลักสูตรฝึกหัดครูชั้นต้น ทั้งนี้ระยะเวลาการสอนขึ้นอยู่กับหลักสูตรของ แต่ละวิทยาลัยซึ่งต้องได้รับการรับรองมาตรฐานจากทางรัฐบาล

ครอบคลุมระยะเวลา 2 ปี เป็นหลักสูตรเพื่อเตรียมตัวนักเรียนเข้าสู่การศึกษาชั้นสูงในระดับมหาวิทยาลัย
