อุบัติเหตุจราจรของรถโดยสารประจำทางสาธารณะก่อให้เกิดความสูญเสียทั้งทางการบาดเจ็บและเสียชีวิตตลอดจนทรัพย์สินที่เสียหายคิดเป็นมูลค่าความเสียหายมหาศาล แนวทางหนึ่งของการแก้ไขป้องกันและป้องกันปัญหาคือ การแก้ไขปัญหาด้านพฤติกรรมการขับขี่โดยการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์ถึงพฤติกรรมของผู้ขับขี่รถโดยสารสาธารณะในปัจจุบันเพื่อพัฒนาแนวทางในการปรับปรุงพฤติกรรมเสี่ยงดังกล่าว ซึ่งในรายงานฉบับนี้ได้แสดงถึงผลของการศึกษาวิเคราะห์และประเมินถึงพฤติกรรมของผู้ขับขี่รถโดยสารสาธารณะระหว่างจังหวัด หมวด 2 ของประเทศไทยที่วิ่งใน 2 เส้นทาง คือ 1) กรุงเทพมหานคร - นครราชสีมา จำนวน 30 ตัวอย่าง ซึ่งเป็นกรณีที่ผู้ขับขี่ไม่รู้ตัวว่ากำลังถูกประเมินพฤติกรรมฯ และ 2) กรุงเทพมหานคร – เชียงราย จำนวน 30 ตัวอย่าง ซึ่งเป็นกรณีที่ผู้ขับขี่รู้ตัวว่ากำลังถูกประเมินพฤติกรรมฯ เนื่องจากบนรถโดยสารของ บขส. ได้มีการติดตั้งอุปกรณ์ GPS ไว้แล้ว
ซึ่งผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า ผู้ขับขี่รถโดยสารสาธารณะทั้งสองเส้นทางมีพฤติกรรมการใช้ความเร็วที่เกินกว่ากฎหมายกำหนดคิดเป็นร้อยละ 36 และ 67 ของระยะทางทั้งหมด ตามลำดับ นอกจากนี้ผู้ขับขี่รถโดยสารสาธารณะระหว่างจังหวัดส่วนหนึ่งยังมีพฤติกรรมการขับขี่ที่ไม่เหมาะสมในหลายประเด็น อาทิเช่น การขับขี่อย่าง “ไม่” สุภาพและ “ไม่” ระมัดระวัง การรักษาระยะห่างที่ “ไม่” เหมาะสมกับรถคันข้างหน้า และการเปลี่ยนช่องจราจรอย่าง “ไม่” เหมาะสม (รวดเร็ว/ไม่ให้สัญญาณไฟจราจร) เป็นต้น ซึ่งแม้ว่าค่าที่วิเคราะห์ออกมาได้จะเป็นตัวเลขที่น้อย (ครั้งต่อ 100 กิโลเมตร) แต่ก็เป็นประเด็นที่ควรให้ความสำคัญในปรับปรุงพฤติกรรมเสี่ยงดังกล่าวให้หมดไป เพื่อให้การใช้รถโดยสารสาธารณะมีความปลอดภัยมากยิ่งขึ้น
