เวียดนาม มีลักษณะพื้นที่เป็นแนวยาวคล้ายตัว S มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 331,690 ตารางกิโลเมตร (3 ใน 5 ของไทย หรือ ประมาณ 65%) ตั้งอยู่ทางด้านตะวันออกของคาบสมุทรอินโดจีน ทางทิศเหนือติดกับประเทศจีน ทิศใต้ติดกับทะเลจีนและอ่าวไทย ทิศตะวันออกติดกับอ่าวตัวเกี๋ยและทะเลจีน และทิศตะวันตกติดกับประเทศกัมพูชาและประเทศลาว



“ภูมิประเทศ”

พื้นที่ของเวียดนามส่วนใหญ่จะเป็นภูเขาสูง (โดยเฉพาะทางภาคเหนือ) คั่นระหว่างที่ราบลุ่มแม่น้ำแดง และตอนใต้เป็นที่ราบลุ่มแม่น้ำโขงนอกจากนี้ยังมีชายฝั่งทะเลแคบๆ ที่ยาวจากเหนือจรดใต้

เวียดนามอยู่ในพื้นที่มรสุมเขตร้อน ทางภาคเหนือของประเทศจะมี 4 ฤดู คือ ฤดูใบไม้ผลิ (มีนาคม – เมษายน) ฤดูร้อน (พฤษภาคม – สิงหาคม) ฤดูใบไม้ร่วง (กันยายน – พฤศจิกายน) และฤดูหนาว (ธันวาคม – กุมภาพันธ์) ส่วนทางภาคกลางและภาคใต้จะมีเพียง 2 ฤดู คือ ฤดูฝน (พฤษภาคม – ตุลาคม) และฤดูแล้ง (ตุลาคม – เมษายน)
