The presence of dyes in water effluents is a cause for great environmental concern. This is particularly true for azo dyes because the low reactivity of the azo linkage makes this class of compounds resistant to degradation. Azo dyes are a major class of synthetic, colored organic compounds that account for about half of the textile dyestuffs used today [1]. The cleavage of the azo bond (―N=N―) in the chromophore of an azo dye leads to decolorization of the dye solution.
