หลักเมืองอันเป็นสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของชาวยะลานี้ ได้รับพระมหากรุณาธิคุณจากล้นเกล้าล้นกระหม่อม โดย พ.ต.อ.พิเศษ ศิริ คชหิรัญ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด ได้รับพระราชทานจากพระหัตถ์จากพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวองค์ปัจจุบัน เมื่อวันที่ ๑๘ พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๕ ได้อัญเชิญมาถึงจังหวัดยะลา โดยขบวนรถด่วน เมื่อวันที่ ๒๑ เดือนเดียวกัน โดยมีขบวนแห่ของบรรดาพ่อค้า ประชาชน ลูกเสือ ครู นักเรียน สมาชิกสภาวัฒนธรรมหญิง สมาชิกเหล่ากาชาดจังหวัดยะลา สมาชิกจังหวัด สมาชิกสภาและพนักงานเทศบาล และข้าราชการในจังหวัดยะลา เข้าสู่ปะรำพิธีในวันเดียวกัน และเริ่มประกอบพิธีทางศาสนาทั้งในทางศาสนาพุทธ อิสลาม พราหมณ์ พร้อมทั้งทางไสยศาสตร์ โดยมีพระเถระผู้ใหญ่ ผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ พร้อมทั้งเจ้าหน้าที่ทางสำนักพระราชวังร่วมกระทำพิธีทั้งกลางวันและกลางคืน และได้ฤกษ์พิธีฝังหลักเมือง ในวันที่ ๒๕ พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๕ จากนั้นก็มีมหรสพฉลอง ๗ วัน ๗ คืน นับตั้งแต่วันที่ ๒๕ – ๓๑ พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๕
