ประเพณีสงกรานต์ในภาคต่างๆ

ตามที่ได้กล่าวมาแล้วว่า สงกรานต์เป็นประเพณีโบราณ มีการกำหนดงาน ๓ วัน วันแรกคือ วันมหาสงกรานต์ วันต่อมาคือ วันเนา และสุดท้ายคือ วันเถลิงศก คนไทยในทุกภูมิภาค ส่วนใหญ่มีแนวปฏิบัติตลอดช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์เหมือนๆ กัน จะมีแตกต่างกันไปบ้างเฉพาะรายละเอียดเล็กๆ น้อยๆ เท่านั้น ซึ่งแต่ละภูมิภาคมีความแตกต่างกันดังนี้

ภาคกลาง 

นับแต่โบราณมา เมื่อใกล้จะถึงวันสงกรานต์ซึ่งถือกันว่าเป็นวันขึ้นปีใหม่ ก่อนถึงวันงาน ทุกบ้านจะมีการทำความสะอาดบ้านเรือน พร้อมทั้งจัดเตรียมสิ่งของเครื่องใช้เพื่อการทำบุญ และมีการจัดทำขนมไว้ล่วงหน้าเป็นการเฉพาะ สำหรับเทศกาลสงกรานต์ คือ การกวนกะละแม และข้าวเหนียวแดง ซึ่งเป็นขนมประจำเทศกาลสงกรานต์ ขนมทั้ง ๒ อย่างนี้ ในสมัยก่อน จะมีเฉพาะช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์เท่านั้น
เมื่อถึงวันสงกรานต์ ประชาชนแต่ละครัวเรือนจะตื่นกันแต่เช้ามืด จัดเตรียมอาหารคาวหวานเพื่อนำไปทำบุญเลี้ยงพระที่วัด ในวันนี้ ทุกคนจะแต่งกายด้วยเสื้อผ้าชุดใหม่สีสันสดใส โดยเฉพาะคนหนุ่มคนสาว เพราะจะได้มีโอกาสพบปะสังสรรค์กันอย่างเสรี
