โครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดําริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดา สยามบรมราชกุมารี (อพ.สธ.) เป็นโครงการที่คณะเทคโนโลยีสังคม มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลอีสาน วิทยาเขตกาฬสินธุ์ ได้เข้าร่วมสนองพระราชดำริฯ เพื่อสร้างความตระหนักและการสร้างจิตสำนึก พร้อมกับถ่ายทอดความรู้ให้กับเยาวชน นักเรียน นักศึกษา ในกรอบการสร้างจิตสำนึก ในกิจกรรมที่ 7 กรอบการสร้างจิตสำนึกในการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืช เพื่อให้เยาวชนมีความรู้ความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับพรรณไม้ และการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชของประเทศ ตลอดจนได้ตระหนักถึงความสำคัญและประโยชน์ต่อชุมชน โดยการจัดโครงการอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ “นักพฤกษศาสตร์แกนนำในโรงเรียน” มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างเครือข่ายให้สถานศึกษาระดับมัธยมศึกษา อุดมศึกษา โดยจัดอบรมนักเรียน นักศึกษา ให้เข้าใจแนวทางการดำเนินงานสวนพฤกษศาสตร์โรงเรียนอย่างยั่งยืน อีกทั้งยังเป็นการปลูกฝังจิตสำนึกให้นักเรียน นักศึกษา ให้มีความรัก เห็นคุณค่าของพืชพรรณไม้ และสามารถทำงานเป็นกลุ่ม ฝึกความกล้าแสดงออกมีภาวะความเป็นผู้นำ นักเรียน นักศึกษา โดยมีผู้เข้าอบรมทั้งสิ้นจำนวน 600 คน แยกเป็นสถานศึกษาระดับมัธยมศึกษาจำนวน 14 โรงเรียน และระดับอุดมศึกษา 1 แห่ง จากผลการอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการพบว่า
