วัดพระธาตุลำปางหลวง เป็นวัดที่มีสถาปัตยกรรมที่งดงาม และมีความสําคัญทางด้านประวัติศาสตร์ วัดพระธาตุลำปางหลวงเป็นวัดเก่าแก่คู่บ้านคู่เมืองลําปาง ตามตํานานกล่าวว่า มีมาตั้งแต่สมัยพระนางจามเทวี ราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 13 ตัววัดตั้งอยู่บนเนิน มีบันไดนาคทอดขึ้นสู่ตัววัด

นอกจากนี้ วัดพระธาตุลำปางหลวง ยังเป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระแก้วดอนเต่า ซึ่งเป็นพระพุทธรูปคู่บ้านคู่เมืองของจังหวัดลําปาง ทุกปีจะมีงานประจําปีในวันเพ็ญเดือน 12
