ความสำคัญของปัญหา
อุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวเป็นอุตสาหกรรมที่มีการขยายตัวสูง มีบทบาทความสำคัญต่อระบบ เศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประเทศไทยเป็นอย่างมาก เป็นแหล่งรายได้ที่สำคัญนำมาซึ่งเงินตราต่างประเทศ การสร้างงาน และการกระจายความเจริญไปสู่ภูมิภาค นอกจากนี้การท่องเที่ยวยังมีส่วนสำคัญในการพัฒนาระบบโครงสร้างพื้นฐานของการคมนาคมขนส่ง รวมไปถึงการค้าและการลงทุน เมื่อประเทศประสบภาวะวิกฤตทางเศรษฐกิจ การท่องเที่ยวมีบทบาทสำคัญในการสร้างรายได้ให้กับประเทศสามารถช่วยให้เศรษฐกิจฟื้นตัวได้ในเวลาที่รวดเร็วกว่าภาคผลิตและบริการอื่นๆ อย่างไรก็ตามอุตสาหกรรมการท่องเที่ยวมีแนวโน้มการแข่งขันรุนแรงขึ้นตามลำดับ มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็วและมีความอ่อนไหวง่ายจากปัจจัยลบทั้งภายในและภายนอกประเทศโดยไม่อาจหลีกเลี่ยงได้ สถานการณ์และผลกระทบจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เป็นความท้าทายต่อการท่องเที่ยวของประเทศไทย (กระทรวงการท่องเที่ยวและกีฬา, 2554)
ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในปัจจุบันการเมืองในประเทศไทยที่มีการชุมนุม ส่งผลกระทบต่อความเชื่อมั่นต่อนักลงทุน เศรษฐกิจและกระทบต่อภาคการท่องเที่ยว ความจริงแล้วประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศที่ค่อนข้างปลอดภัย แม้ในช่วงที่มีปัญหาการจลาจลหรือเกิดเหตุประท้วงความไม่สงบขึ้นในกรุงเทพฯ ก็ไม่ส่งผลลามมาถึงนักท่องเที่ยว คือ ไม่มีการมุ่งทำร้ายหรือหมายเอาชีวิตนักท่องเที่ยว ขณะที่คนกรุงเทพฯยังคงดำเนินชีวิตต่อไปตามปกติที่กล่าวมาทั้งหมดนี้ไม่ได้ช่วยแก้ตัวหรือตอกย้ำปัญหาของประเทศไทยแต่ต้องการชี้ให้เห็นว่าปีนี้ไม่ใช่ปีที่ดีนักต่อการท่องเที่ยว ซึ้งถ้ามองอีกมุมหนึ่งก็ถือเป็นโอกาสทองของนักท่องเที่ยวที่จะได้เดินทางมาเยือนประเทศไทยในราคาที่ถูกลงกว่าเดิม ด้วยเหตุนี้ผู้วิจัยจึงมีความสนใจที่จะศึกษาถึงแรงแรงจูงใจของนักท่องเที่ยวว่าเพราะเหตุใดเมื่อเกิดสถานการณ์ความไม่สงบขึ้นจึงยังอยากที่จะเข้ามาท่องเที่ยวที่ประเทศไทยหรือมีความสนใจในสิ่งใดเป็นพิเศษหรือไม่ เพื่อให้ทราบถึงแรงจูงใจในการท่องเที่ยวอันที่จะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวต่อไป (www.paow007.wordpress.com : วันที่ 15 เมษายน 2556)
