ประวัติความเป็นมาวันครู

วันครู ได้จัดให้มีขึ้นครั้งแรกเมื่อวันที่ 16 มกราคม พ.ศ.2500 สืบเนื่องมาจากการประกาศพระราชบัญญัติครูในราชกิจจานนุเบกษาเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2488 ซึ่งระบุให้มีสภาในกระทรวงศึกษาธิการเรียกว่า คุรุสภา เป็นนิติบุคคลให้ครูทุกคนเป็นสมาชิกคุรุสภา โดยมีหน้าที่ในเรื่องของสถาบันวิชาชีพครูในขณะเดียวกัน ก็ทำหน้าที่ให้ความเห็นเรื่องนโยบายการศึกษา และวิชาการศึกษาทั่วไปแก่กระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ควบคุมจรรยาและวินัยของครู รักษาผลประโยชน์ ส่งเสริมฐานะของครู จัดสวัสดิการให้ครู และครอบครัวได้รับความช่วยเหลือตามสมควร ส่งเสริมความรู้ และความสามัคคีของครู
