กรมควบคุมการปฏิบัติทางอากาศ จัดตั้ง

กรมควบคุมการปฏิบัติทางอากาศ จัดตั้งขึ้นเมื่อ ๑ ตุลาคม ๒๕๒๐ ตามพระราชกฤษฎีกา การแบ่งส่วนราชการ และกำหนดหน้าที่ส่วนราชการ
กองทัพอากาศ กองบัญชาการทหารสูงสุด กระทรวงกลาโหม ลงวันที่ ๓ สิงหาคม ๒๕๒๐ ซึ่ง พระราชกฤษฎีกาฉบับนี้ได้ยกเลิกกองบินยุทธการ
(บย.) ซึ่งเดิมเป็นส่วนกำลังรบประกอบด้วย กองบิน, หน่วยบินยุทธวิธี, หน่วยในระบบควบคุมทางยุทธวิธี และหน่วยในระบบป้องกันทางอากาศ

ดังนั้น กองทัพอากาศจึงได้จัดให้กรมควบคุมการปฏิบัติทางอากาศ เป็นหน่วยขึ้นตรงต่อ กองบัญชาการยุทธทางอากาศ
นับตั้งแต่ ๑ ตุลาคม ๒๕๓๙
