ในปัจจุบันประเทศไทยมีการแข่งขันทางธุรกิจอย่างรุนแรง เนื่องมาจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพทางเศรษฐกิจ สังคม เทคโนโลยี และการศึกษา การจัดการโลจิสติกส์ได้มีบทบาทเป็นอย่างมากในปัจจุบันโดยเฉพาะอุตสาหกรรมโรงสีข้าว และมีความสำคัญมากต่อการแข่งขันทางธุรกิจ เพื่อให้การดำเนินธุรกิจเกิดประโยชน์สูงสุด
ดังนั้นผู้วิจัยจึงสนใจ ศึกษาการจัดการโลจิสติกส์ที่มีผลต่อประสิทธิภาพในการทำงานของอุตสาหกรรมโรงสีข้าวในจังหวัดนครปฐม โดยทำการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจโรงสีข้าวในจังหวัดนครปฐม กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ ผู้ประกอบการอุตสาหกรรมโรงสีข้าวในจังหวัดนครปฐม จำนวน 55 คน และใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือ สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ F-test (ANOVA) การวิเคราะห์สหสัมพันธ์แบบพหุคูณ และการวิเคราะห์ความถดถอยเชิงพหุคูณ
ผลการวิจัย พบว่า ผู้ประกอบการมีความคิดเห็นด้วยเกี่ยวกับการจัดการโลจิสติกส์และประสิทธิภาพในการทำงานโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับมาก ผู้ประกอบการที่มีสถานที่ตั้ง (อำเภอ) แตกต่างกัน ทุนจดทะเบียนเริ่มต้นที่แตกต่างกัน และทุนจดทะเบียนในปัจจุบันที่แตกต่างกัน มีความคิดเห็นด้วยเกี่ยวกับการจัดการโลจิสติกส์แตกต่างกัน และผู้ประกอบการที่มีสถานที่ตั้ง (อำเภอ) แตกต่างกัน มีความคิดเห็นด้วยเกี่ยวกับประสิทธิภาพในการทำงานแตกต่างกัน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.05 จากการวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์และผลกระทบของการจัดการโลจิสติกส์ที่มีผลต่อประสิทธิภาพในการทำงานโดยรวม พบว่า การจัดการโลจิสติกส์ด้านขนส่ง และด้านการบริหารคลังสินค้า มีความสัมพันธ์และผลกระทบเชิงบวกกับประสิทธิภาพการในการทำงานโดยรวม

ล่าสุดทางสำนักงานคณะกรรมการวิจัยแห่งชาติ (วช.) และสำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุนการวิจัย (สกว.) ได้ให้การสนับสนุน สถาบันการขนส่งแห่งจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในการศึกษาสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกทางการค้าที่ท่าเรือระหว่างประเทศของไทย เพื่อรองรับประชาคมเศรษฐกิจอาเซียน ซึ่งได้มีการสำรวจท่าเรือขนส่งสินค้าระหว่างประเทศที่สำคัญรวม 9 แห่ง ทั้งของการท่าเรือและของเอกชนเอง

โดยพิจารณาท่าเรือที่มีการขนส่งสินค้าระหว่างประเทศปริมาณสูง ได้แก่ ท่าเรือแหลมฉบัง ท่าเรือกรุงเทพ ท่าเรือ BMTP ท่าเรือ TPT ท่าเรือ UNITHAI ท่าเรือศรีราชา ฮาร์เบอร์ ท่าเรือเคอรี่ สยามซีพอร์ต ท่าเรือมาบตาพุด และท่าเรือน้ำลึกสงขลา รวมถึงสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับกิจกรรมการขนส่งสินค้าระหว่างประเทศ ได้แก่ ผู้บริหารท่าเรือ/ศุลกากร สายเรือ ผู้ประกอบการนำเข้าหรือส่งออก และบริษัทผู้รับจัดการขนส่งสินค้าระหว่างประเทศรวมกว่า 60 หน่วยงาน นอกจากนี้ คณะผู้วิจัยจะเก็บข้อมูลที่ท่าเรือสิงคโปร์ ซึ่งเป็นท่าเรือต้นแบบมีปริมาณการขนส่งสินค้าสูง และมีศักยภาพในการดำเนินงานอันดับต้นในภูมิภาคอาเซียนมาเปรียบเทียบด้วย
