ภาคใต้ มีภาษาพูดประจำถิ่นที่ห้วนๆ สั้นๆ เป็นเอกลักษณ์ เรียกว่า “ภาษาใต้หรือแหลงใต้” ส่วนกลุ่มคนที่อยู่แถบชายแดนไทย-มาเลเซีย นิยมพูด ภาษายาวี หรือภาษามาเลเซีย
ตัวอย่างภาษาพูดภาคใต้ เช่น แหลง (พูด) หร๋อย (อร่อย) ทำไหร๋ (ทำอะไร) บางท้องถิ่นใช้ภาษายาวี เพราะนับถือศาสนาอิสลาม
การแต่งกายภาคใต้ ภาคนี้มีการแต่งกายต่างกันตามเชื้อชาติ ถ้าเชื้อสายจีนจะแต่งแบบจีน ถ้าเป็นชาวมุสลิม ก็จะแต่งคล้ายกับชาวมาเลเซีย


ปัจจุบันแหล่งทำผ้าแบบดั้งเดิมนั้นเกือบจะสูญหายไป คงพบได้เฉพาะ 4 แหล่งเท่านั้นคือ ที่ตำบลพุมเรี้ยง จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี , อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช , เกาะยอ จังหวัดสงขลา และตำบลนาหมื่นศรี จังหวัดตรัง
