จากแนวความคิดนี้ กอปรกับความเห็นของครูที่แสดงออกทางสื่อมวลชนและอื่นๆ ล้วนเรียกร้องให้มีวันครูเพื่อให้เป็นวันแห่งการรำลึก ถึงความสำคัญของครูในฐานะที่เป็นผู้เสียสละ ประกอบคุณงามความดี เพื่อประโยชน์ของชาติและประชาชนเป็นอันมากในปีเดียวกันที่ประชุมคุรุสภาสามัญประจำปีจึงได้พิจารณาเรื่องนี้และมีมติเห็นควรให้มีวันครูเพื่อเสนอ คณะกรรมการอำนวยการต่อไป โดยได้เสนอหลักการว่า เพื่อจะได้ประกอบพิธีระลึกถึงคุณบูรพาจารย์ ส่งเสริมสามัคคีธรรมระหว่างครูและเพื่อส่งเสริม ความเข้าใจอันดีระหว่างครูกับประชาชน
