จำนวนนักเรียน/นักศึกษารายชั้นต่อประชากรในระบบโรงเรียน ปีการศึกษา 2555 พบว่ามีสัดส่วนที่สูงในเด็กก่อนวัยเรียน และระดับประถมศึกษา โดยจะลดน้อยลงไปในระดับการศึกษาอื่นๆ ที่สูงขึ้น (ภาคผนวก : แผนภาพที่ 1) และแนวโน้มอัตราส่วนนักเรียนต่อประชากร ตั้งแต่ปีการศึกษา 2553 – 2556 ส่วนระดับการศึกษาภาค บังคับ 9 ปี (6-14) ในระดับประถมศึกษา (6-11 ปี) มีแนวโน้มเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่องส่วนระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น (12-14ปี) มีแนวโน้มลดลง (ภาคผนวก : แผนภาพที่ 2) โดยในปี 2555 ผู้เรียนที่ศึกษาในระบบโรงเรียนมีร้อยละ 96 หรือประมาณ 7.4ล้านคน และอัตราส่วนระหว่างครูต่อนักเรียน ใน ระดับการศึกษา 3-17 ปี คือ 1 : 18 (ภาคผนวก : แผนภาพที่ 3)
