พระธาตุหนองสามหมื่น หรือ พระธาตุบ้านแก้ง
ตั้งอยู่ที่ตำบลบ้านแก้ง อำเภอภูเขียว การเดินทางจากจังหวัดชัยภูมิตามทางหลวงหมายเลข 201 ประมาณ 5 กม. ถึงสี่แยกเลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 201 สู่อำเภอภูเขียว เลยไปจนถึงบ้านหนองสองห้อง ระยะทางประมาณ 75 กม. เลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 2055 ประมาณ 9 กม. ถึงบ้านแก้ง เลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าวัดบ้านแก้งอีกประมาณ 5 กม. องค์พระธาตุตั้งอยู่ภายในวัด
พระธาตุสามหมื่น เรียกชื่อตามหนองน้ำสามหมื่น ซึ่งตั้งห่างออกไปทางทิศตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของจังหวัด เป็นพระธาตุที่มีลักษณะสวยงาม และสมบูรณ์ที่สุดองค์หนึ่ง ไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นเมื่อใด แต่จากลักษณะทางด้านสถาปัตยกรรมและศิลปกรรม ที่ผสมผสานกันระหว่างล้านนา ล้านช้าง และอยุธยา สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 21-22 ในสมัยพระไชยเชษฐาธิราชแห่งราชอาณาจักรลาว
พระธาตุสามหมื่นมีลักษณะเป็นเจดีย์ย่อมุมไม้สิบสอง ตั้งอยู่บนฐานเขียงรูปสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัสกว้างประมาณ 32.70 เมตร สูงถึงยอดประมาณ 45.30 เมตร มีบันไดทางขึ้นทั้งสี่ด้าน เหนือฐานเขียงเป็นฐานบัวคว่ำบัวหงายรองรับองค์พระธาตุ ซึ่งมีซุ้มทั้งสี่ทิศ ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปปางรำพึง และปางลีลา ภายในองค์พระธาตุบรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุของพระพุทธเจ้า รูปแบบดังกล่าวอาจเปรียบเทียบ ได้กับพระธาตุอื่นๆ ทั้งในนครเวียงจันทน์และในเขตไทย เช่น พระธาตุวัดเทพพล เมืองเวียงคุก จังหวัดหนองคาย พระธาตุศรีเมือง นครเวียงจันทน์ เป็นต้น

นอกจากนี้ บริเวณที่ตั้งพระธาตุสามหมื่น แต่เดิมก็เคยเป็นเมืองโบราณสมัยทวารวดีที่มีขนาดใหญ่ เมืองหนึ่งอายุราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 12-16 ด้วยปรากฏร่องรอยของคูน้ำคันดิน และโคกเนิน โบราณสถานหลายแห่ง โบราณวัตถุสำคัญที่พบทั้งในและนอกเขตคูเมืองหลายชิ้นได้นำมาเก็บรักษาไว้ที่วัด เช่น กลุ่มใบเสมาหินทราย บางแผ่นก็มีจารึกอักษรปัลลวะภาษาสันสกฤต อายุราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 12-14 และมีแผ่นหนึ่งนำไปตั้งเป็นหลักเมืองประจำอำเภอภูเขียวด้วย นอกจากนี้ยังมีประติมากรรมรูปเคารพอีก 2 ชิ้น สภาพชำรุดชิ้นหนึ่งคล้ายเศียรพระพุทธรูปนาคปรก ในศิลปะขอมแบบบายน อายุราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 18 พระธาตุสามหมื่นและบริเวณโดยรอบ แห่งนี้จึงนับว่ามีความสำคัญและน่าสนใจมากแห่งหนึ่ง
