ธีรศิลป์ แดงดา เกิดที่กรุงเทพมหานคร มีบิดาชื่อ พ.อ.อ.ประสิทธิ์ แดงดา กับมารดาชื่อกาญจนา ซึ่งเป็นชาวจังหวัดสุรินทร์ และธีรศิลป์มีน้องสาวหนึ่งคนชื่อธนีกาญจน์ แดงดา ซึ่งเป็นนักกีฬาฟุตบอลหญิงทีมชาติไทย ทั้งนี้ ธีรศิลป์สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายจากโรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญธนบุรี โดยเขาได้เป็นหนึ่งในนักฟุตบอลเยาวชนของโรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญธนบุรีด้วย ซึ่งได้รับคำชมจากเพื่อนร่วมรุ่นและผู้ฝึกสอนของโรงเรียนอัสสัมชัญธนบุรีว่าเป็นนักฟุตบอลที่เก่งและสามารถเคลื่อนไหวไปกับลูกบอลได้อย่างรวดเร็ว

ในปลายปี พ.ศ. 2551 ธีรศิลป์ได้เดินทางกลับมาเล่นฟุตบอลในประเทศไทยโดยลงเล่นในดิวิชั่น 2 ให้สโมสรราชประชาอดีตต้นสังกัดเก่าด้วยสัญญายืมตัว 5 นัด และช่วยให้สโมสรรอดจากการตกชั้นได้สำเร็จ ก่อนจะถูกยกเลิกสัญญาจากแมนเชสเตอร์ซิตี สโมสรต้นสังกัดที่แท้จริงในเวลาต่อมา [3]

ในฤดูกาลนี้ธีรศิลป์ได้ลงเล่นเป็นตัวจริงมากขึ้นถึงแม้จะติดเกมส์ของทีมชาติและมีอาการบาดเจ็บทั้งเกมส์ในลีก,ทีมชาติ และเกมส์ชิงแชมป์สโมสรเอเชียอย่าง เอเอฟซีคัพ แต่เขาก็ยังเป็นกำลังหลักสำคัญของสโมสรในการคว้าแชมป์ ไทยพรีเมียร์ลีก ซึ่งเป็นครั้งที่ 2 ของสโมสรเทียบเท่า บีอีซี เทโรศาสน ธนาคารกรุงไทย และ แอร์ฟอร์ซ ยูไนเต็ด นอกจากนั้นเขายังยิงได้ในรายการ เอเอฟซีคัพ รอบสิบหกทีมสุดท้ายสุดท้ายที่สโมสรเจอกับ อัล รายยัน สโมสรฟุตบอลจากประเทศกาตาร์ แต่ก็ต้องตกรอบในรอบแปดทีมสุดท้ายในนัดทีเจอกับ อัล อิตติฮัด จากซีเรีย ไปด้วยสกอร์ 2-1
