ประวัติ / ความเป็นมา
“กำฟ้า” เป็นประเพณีของชาวไทยพวนในจังหวัดต่าง ที่มีชาวพวนอาศัยอยู่ได้ยึดถือปฏิบัติต่อกันมาตั้งแต่ครั้งโบราณ
“กำ” ในภาษาไทยพวน หมายถึง การนับถือและสักการะบูชา ดังนั้น กำฟ้า จึงหมายถึงประเพณีนับถือ สักการะบูชาฟ้า
เนื่องจากชาวพวนเป็นกลุ่มชนที่ประกอบอาชีพทางการเกษตร โดยเฉพาะการทำนา ในสมัยดั้งเดิมการทำนาต้องอาศัยน้ำฝนจากธรรมชาติ ชาวนาในสมัยนั้นจึงมีการเกรงกลัวฟ้ามาก ไม่กล้าที่จะทำอะไรให้ฟ้าพิโรธ ถ้าฟ้าพิโรธย่อมหมายถึง ความแห้งแล้ง อดยาก หรือฟ้าอาจผ่าคนตาย ประชาชนกลัวจะได้รับความทุกข์ยากอันเป็นภัยจากฟ้า จึงมีการเซ่นสรวง สักการะบูชาผีฟ้า ทั้งนี้ เพื่อเป็นการเอาใจ มิให้ฟ้าพิโรธ หรืออีกนัยหนึ่ง ชาวบ้านที่ประกอบอาชีพทางด้านเกษตรกรรมนั้น รู้สึกสำนึกในบุญคุณของผีฟ้าที่ได้ให้น้ำฝน อันหมายถึงความชุ่มชื้น ความอุดมสมบูรณ์ มีชีวิตของคน สัตว์ และพืชพรรณต่างๆ จึงได้เกิดประเพณีกำฟ้าขึ้น เพื่อเป็นการประจบผีฟ้าไม่ให้พิโรธ และเป็นการแสดงความขอบคุณต่อเทพยาดาแห่งท้องฟ้าหรือผีฟ้า ดังกล่าวมาแล้ว


กำหนดงาน
ประเพณีกำฟ้า เช่นที่ปฏิบัติในหมู่ชาวพวน อำเภอหมี่ ยังคงปฏิบัติกันอยู่ในหมู่ชาวบ้านพวนทุกจังหวัดทั่วประเทศ แต่ละท้องที่จะกำหนด วัน เวลา คาดเคลื่อนกันไปบ้างในห้วงเวลาของเดือนอ้าย ขึ้น 14 ค่ำ เดือนยี่ ขึ้น 13 ค่ำ และเดือน3 ขึ้น 3 ค่ำ ทั้งนี้เป็นการตกลงของชาวพวนในแต่ละท้องที่ เดิมทีเดียวในหมู่คนพวนโดยทั่วไปจะถือเอาวันที่มีผู้ได้ยินเสียงฟ้าร้องครั้งแรกในเดือน 3 ให้เป็นวันเริ่มกำฟ้า แต่การยึดถือตามแนวนี้มักเกิดปัญหาในเรื่องข้อโต้แย้งกันอยู่เสมอว่า คนนั้นได้ยินคนนี้ไม่ได้ยิน เป็นที่รำคาญใจ การที่ได้ยินเสียงฟ้าร้องครั้งแรกในเดือน 3 นี้ ถือกันว่า ฟ้าเปิดประตูน้ำ โดยมากกวานบ้าน (หัวหน้าหมู่บ้าน) จะถือเอาการฟังเสียงฟ้าของคนหูตึงในหมู่บ้านเป็นเกณฑ์ ทั้งนี้ เพื่อให้เป็นเสียงฟ้าร้องที่ดังจริงๆ จนผู้คนสามารถได้ยินกันอย่างทั่วถึง

กิจกรรม / พิธี
กิจกรรมที่ชาวพวนถือปฏิบัติกันในระหว่างกำฟ้ามี 3ประการ คือ
ประการที่ 1 งดเว้นจากการงานที่ปฏิบัติอยู่เป็นประจำทั้งหมด
ประการที่ 2 ทำบุญใส่บาตร
ประการที่ 3 ประกอบพิธี ตั้งบายศรีบูชาฟ้าและประกาศขอพรจากเทพยาดาที่รักษาท้องฟ้า หรือผีฟ้า
ตามประเพณีนั้น “วันสุกดิบ” อันเป็นวันเตรียมงานตรงกับวันขึ้น 2 ค่ำ เดือน 3 บรรดาแม่บ้านช่วยกันทำกับข้าวปุ้น (ขนมจีน) ข้าวหลาม ข้าวจี่ เพื่อนำไปเซ่นผีฟ้า การเผาข้าวหลามทิพย์จะทำบริเวณลานวัด เวลาประมาณบ่ายสามโมงเย็น พระสงฆ์ทำพิธีเจริญพุทธมนต์เย็น ในปะรำพิธีที่จัดเตรียมไว้ผู้อาวุโสในหมู่บ้านที่มีความรู้ด้านการประกอนพิธี จะทำหน้าที่พราหมณ์สวดเบิกบายศรี บูชาเทพยาดา ผีฟ้าแล้วอ่านประกาศอัญเชิญเทวดาให้มารับเครื่องเซ่นสังเวย มารับรู้พิธีกรรม บางท้องที่มีการรำขอพรจากฟ้าเสร็จพิธีแล้วต่างก็แยกย้ายกันกลับบ้าน ตกกลางคืนก่อนเข้านอน คนแก่คนเฒ่าจะเอาไม้ไปเคาะที่เตาไฟแล้วกล่าวคำพูดอันเป็นมงคลในทำนองที่ให้ผีฟ้า ผีบ้าน ผีเรือน ช่วยมาปกป้องรักษาคนในครอบครัวให้มีความอยู่ดีมีสุข ให้ข้าวปลาอาหารอย่างอุดมสมบูรณ์

ส่วนประเพณีกำฟ้าในปัจจุบัน คนเฒ่าคนแก่ที่เคยพบเห็นเป็นประเพณีกำฟ้าในอดีต ท่ามกลางสภาพแวดล้อมของธรรมชาติอย่างแท้จริง ต่างคร่ำครวญถึงความหลัง เสียงหม่าเบี้ยกระทบกระดาน เสียงลำพวนเสียงแคนสลับกับเสียงหัวเราะสนุกสนานเฮอา ซึ่งหาไม่ได้ในปัจจุบัน แต่ด้วยเสน่ห์ของวันประเพณีกำฟ้าแต่หนหลัง จึงได้มีการจัดงานวันกำฟ้า โดยประยุกต์รูปแบบวิธีการที่เข้ากับยุคสมัย มีการจัดงานกำฟ้ารำลึกขึ้น มีงานกินเลี้ยง สังสรรค์ประกอบเสียงดนตรี มีการแสดงสาธิต การละเล่นพื้นเมืองต่างๆ ส่วนภาคกลางวันมีพิธีการทางศาสนาตามเดิม บางท้องที่จัดงานในรูปของสวนสนุก มีมหรสพต่างๆ เพื่อจัดหารายได้ไปบำเพ็ญสาธารณกุศล เช่น สร้างโรงเรียน ศาลาวัด สถานีอนามัย สะพาน ฯลฯ นับว่าทุกวันนี้ประเพณีกำฟ้าได้แปรเปลี่ยนไปอย่างมาก ได้มีการจัดตั้งชมรมในหมู่บ้านชาวพวน เพื่อรวมตัวกันอนุรักษ์ส่งเสริมฟื้นฟูประเพณีวัฒนธรรมของชาวบ้านพวน ให้คงอยู่เพื่อชนรุ่นหลัง และชาวต่างชาติ ต่างภาษาได้เรียนรู้ถึงความเป็นอยู่ของชาวพวนในสมัยดั้งเดิม นับเป็นประโยชน์ต่อสังคมอย่างยิ่ง
