นางปวีณากล่าวว่า จากกรณีที่กระทรวงการพัฒนาสังคมฯ โดยสำนักงานป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาการค้าหญิงและเด็ก โดยได้ให้การช่วยเหลือหญิงไทยจำนวน 3 รายที่ได้เดินทางไปทำงานนวดแผนไทยให้กับบริษัทแห่งหนึ่งที่นครโจฮันเนสเบิร์ก สาธารณรัฐ แอฟริกาใต้ ซึ่งจากการคัดแยกเหยื่อจากทีมสหวิชาชีพ และกรมสอบสวนคดีพิเศษ พบว่าเป็นผู้เสียหายจากการค้ามนุษย์ ทั้งนี้ ร้านนวดดังกล่าวเคยมีหญิงไทยเสียชีวิตหลังจากไปทำงานได้ไม่ถึง 3 เดือน

นอกจากนี้ยังมีญาติของหญิงไทยที่บริษัทดังกล่าวร้องทุกข์ต่อรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการพัฒนาสังคม ขอให้ช่วยเหลือหญิงไทยอีก 2 รายกลับประเทศไทย จึงได้ประสานหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง เพื่อเร่งให้ความช่วยเหลือและส่งตัวกลับประเทศไทย โดยเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจของแอฟริกาใต้ได้ทำการช่วยเหลือหญิงไทยออกมาจากร้านนวดดังกล่าว จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 8 ราย และได้มีการสอบสวนคดีที่ประเทศแอฟริกาใต้ก่อนจะส่งกลับประเทศไทย

นางปวีณากล่าวอีกว่า สำหรับการให้ความช่วยเหลือผู้เสียหายดังกล่าว ทางกระทรวงการพัฒนาสังคมฯ ต้องทำการประเมินสภาพร่างกายและจิตใจ รวมทั้งความปลอดภัยของผู้เสียหาย และหากมีความพร้อมในการคืนสู่สังคม ก็จะส่งกลับภูมิลำเนา โดยจะส่งเจ้าหน้าที่ไปดูแลสภาพจิตใจผู้เสียหายที่บ้าน และหากพบว่าผู้เสียหายมีความเสี่ยงด้านความปลอดภัย ทางกระทรวงฯ จะจัดหาที่พักที่ปลอดภัยให้เป็นการชั่วคราว พร้อมทั้งดำเนินการให้ความช่วยเหลือต่อไป
