ในงานวิจัยนี้มีพื้นที่ศึกษาตั้งอยู่บริเวณอำเภอชะอำ จังหวัด เพชรบุรีซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่แห่งหนึ่งที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากปัญหาดังกล่าว


โดยวัตถุประสงค์ของงานวิจัยนี้คือเพื่อประเมินการแทรกซอนของน้ำทะเลสู่ชั้นน้ำบาดาลชายฝั่ง ซึ่งจะทำให้ทราบว่าเกิดการรุกล้ำเข้ามาถึงบริเวณไหนเพื่อนำไปสู่การวางแผนป้องกันแก้ไขฟื้นฟูพื้นที่ที่ได้รับผลกระทบอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ซึ่งทำการศึกษาโดยใช้วิธีการสำรวจความต้านทานไฟฟ้าในแนวดิ่ง จำนวน 80 จุดสำรวจ ครอบคลุมพื้นที่ศึกษา และเลือกข้อมา47 จุดสำรวจเพื่อมาแสดงผลเป็นภาคตัดขวางที่มีแนวการวางตัว ตะวันตก-ตะวันออกทิศทางตั้งฉากกับแนวชายฝั่งจำนวน 4 แนวโดยใช้โปรแกรม IPI2WIN ในการประมวลผลข้อมูล และอธิบายผลร่วมกับการวิเคราะห์เคมีของตัวอย่างน้ำบาดาล จำนวน 57 บ่อ ผลการศึกษาพบว่าการรุกล้ำของน้ำทะเลจะเกิดขึ้นในชั้นตะกอนเศษหินเชิงเขาที่มีความลึกเฉลี่ยอยู่ในช่วง 50-60 เมตร และมีแนวโน้มลึกขึ้นเมื่อเข้าใกล้ชายฝั่ง โดยค่าความต้านทานไฟฟ้า < 5 โอห์มเมตรของชั้นหินอุ้มน้ำจะแสดงถึงการได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำทะเลรุกล้ำสูง และ ค่าความต้านทานไฟฟ้าช่วง 5-10 โอห์มเมตร จะแสดงถึงการได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำทะเลรุกล้ำปานกลาง ซึ่งพบว่ามีความสอดคล้องกับผลการวิเคราะห์เคมีของตัวอย่างน้ำบาดาล โดยจาการจัดกลุ่มน้ำด้วยแผนภาพไพเพอร์ พบว่าตัวอย่างน้ำสามารถแบ่งได้เป็น 5 ประเภทและจัดกลุ่มได้ 3 กลุ่มคือ Ca-Na-HCO3 (กลุ่มที่ไม่ได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำทะเล), Ca-Na-HCO3-Cl, Ca-HCO3-Cl และ Ca-Na-Cl (กลุ่มที่ได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำทะเลเล็กน้อย) และ Na-Cl กลุ่มที่ได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำทะเลมาก และพบว่ากลุ่มที่ได้รับอิทธิพลของน้ำทะเลสูงจะมีค่าการนำไฟฟ้าของน้ำสูงตามด้วย เมื่อนำผลทั้งหมดมาวิเคราะห์ร่วมกันพบว่า บริเวณที่มีค่าความค้านทานไฟฟ้าต่ำจะแสดงผลของค่าการนำไฟฟ้าของน้ำสูง และชนิดของน้ำเป็น Na-Cl ซึ่งพบว่าในตอนบนของพื้นที่ศึกษาจะพบการแทรกซอนของน้ำทะเลมากกว่าบริเวณอื่นคือ จากชายฝั่งเข้าไปเป็นระยะ 8 กิโลเมตร
