การเมืองการปกครองในสมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนกลาง
เป็นช่วงเวลาปรับปรุงเปลี่ยนแปลงประเทศให้เข้าสู่ความทัน สมัย โดยรับอิทธิพลอารยธรรมตะวันตก เนื่องจากถูกคุกคามจากลัทธิจักรวรรดินิยมของชาติตะวันตก เป็นสมัยที่ประเทศ ไทยพัฒนาการเข้าสู่ความเป็นรัฐชาติ สมัยนี้เป็นสมัยแห่งการปรับปรุงเปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งทางด้านการเมือง การปกครอง เศรษฐกิจ สังคม ศิลปวัฒนธรรม การเปลี่ยนแปลงที่สำคัญในสมัยนี้ คือ การเลิกทาสและการเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครอง
