ประเพณีวิ่งควาย
          เป็นประเพณีที่มีมาแต่โบราณเชื่อกันว่า หากปีใดไม่มีการวิ่งควาย ปีนั้นวัวควายจะเป็นโรคระบาดตายมากผิดปกติ นอกจากนี้ควายที่เจ็บป่วยระหว่างปี เจ้าของควายก็จะบนบานให้หายแล้วนำมาร่วมในประเพณีนี้ด้วย    คนไทยโบราณเป็นคนที่มีจิตใจเปี่ยมไปด้วยความกตัญญูกตเวทิตา และมีเมตตาธรรม หลังจากได้ใช้ควายไถนาและทำงานในท้องนาอย่างเหน็ดเหนื่อยมาหลายเดือน เมื่อถึงวันขึ้น ๑๔ คํ่า เดือน ๑๑ ก็จะตกแต่งควายของตนให้สวยงามด้วยผ้าแพร และลูกปัด เพื่อเป็นการทำขวัญควาย แล้วหยุดงานในนานำควายเข้าเมือง มีการพบปะ เลี้ยงดู ร่วมกับบรรดาชาวนาผู้ร่วมอาชีพ ตลอดจนประกวดความสมบูรณ์ สวยงามของควายที่ตกแต่งมา นับเป็นการสนองคุณของควายให้มีความสุขตามอัตภาพและได้พักผ่อนจากงานหนักในท้องนา การเลือกวัน ๑๔ คํ่า เพราะเป็นวันโกนก่อนออกพรรษา จึงตกแต่งควายดังกล่าวข้างต้น แล้วเทียมเกวียนบรรทุกกล้วย มะพร้าว ใบตอง และผลิตผลอื่น ๆ มาขายคนเมือง ขากลับก็ซื้อข้าวของไปทำบุญเลี้ยงพระในวันพระ ขึ้น ๑๕ คํ่า และวันออกพรรษา แรม ๑ คํ่า คนโบราณถือว่าวันพระต้องทำบุญ และให้ควายได้หยุดงานพักผ่อน อีกกระแสหนึ่งในวันออกพรรษานั้น วัดใหญ่อินทาราม ซึ่งเป็นวัดสำคัญของชลบุรีมาตั้งแต่สมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย จะจัดให้มีการเทศน์มหาชาติ ชาวนาจึงตกแต่งประดับประดาควายและเกวียนบรรทุกกัณฑ์เทศน์มาที่วัด ตั้งแต่วันขึ้น ๑๔ คํ่า ในอดีตที่วัดใหญ่อินทารามมีหนองนํ้าใหญ่ ชาวนาที่มาพักแรมที่วัดจะพาควายไปอาบนํ้า เมื่อได้พบกันก็เกิดการแข่งขันกันว่าควายของใครจะแข็งแรงสมบูรณ์มากกว่างเกิดการวิ่งแข่งควายขึ้น
