เดิมอำเภอท่าม่วงไม่มีโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษา ชาวอำเภอท่าม่วงต้องส่งลูกหลานไปเรียนที่โรงเรียนประจำจังหวัดกาญจนบุรี ซึ่งเป็นระยะทางไกลถึง 12 กิโลเมตร ปีละ 200-300 คน ขณะนั้นรถประจำยังไม่ค่อยมี ทำให้ลำบากในการเดินทาง นายพีรศักดิ์ สุขพงษ์ นายอำเภอท่าม่วง นายสนั่น ประสมทรัพย์ ศึกษาธิการอำเภอท่าม่วง พร้อมกับประชาชนของอำเภอท่าม่วง ได้ประชุมปรึกษาและมีมติเป็นเอกฉันท์ให้ก่อตั้งโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาประจำอำเภอท่าม่วงขึ้น โดยได้รับบริจาคจากข้าราชการ พ่อค้า ประชาชน และพระสงฆ์ ดังนี้
1. ได้รับเงินงบประมาณจากเงินบำรุงท้องที่ของอำเภอท่าม่วง ก่อสร้างอาคารเรียน 150,000 บาท
2. ประชาชนบริจาค 35,000 บาท
3. เจ้าอาวาสวัดศรีโลหะราษฎร์บำรุง พระครูโสภณประชานารถ มอบที่ดินสำหรับก่อสร้างอาคารเรียน เนื้อที่ 12 ไร่ 2 งาน 18 ตารางวา มูลค่า 20,000 บาท
