ในช่วงปีพ.ศ. 2511-2525 ภูหินร่องกล้านอกจากจะเป็นป่าเขารกชัฏแล้ว ยังถือเป็นหนึ่งในพื้นที่สีแดง ที่เต็มไปด้วยกลิ่นอายแห่งความตายระหว่างการสู้รบของคน 2 กลุ่ม คือ พรรคคอมมิวนิสต์แห่งประเทศไทย กับ ฝ่ายความมั่นคง
