การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมาย 2 ประการดังนี้ (1) เพื่อศึกษาการประเมินประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผลของการตรวจสอบภายในของมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏในเขตภาคกลาง (2) เพื่อศึกษาความแตกต่างระหว่างปัจจัยส่วนบุคคลกับประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผลของการตรวจสอบภายในของมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏในเขตภาคกลางแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ด้าน ด้านสภาพแวดล้อม ด้านความพึงพอใจ และด้านแรงจูงใจ ประชากรกลุ่มเป้าหมาย คือ พนักงานตรวจสอบภายในของมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏในเขตภาคกลาง ผู้วิจัยใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยและเก็บตัวอย่างได้จำนวน 101 คน อัตราการตอบกลับ (Response Rate) คิดเป็นร้อยละ 100 ผลการวิจัย พบว่า เพศ อายุ ความรู้ความสามารถทางด้านคอมพิวเตอร์และประสบการณ์ในการทำงานของพนักงานตรวจสอบภายในแตกต่างกันมีความคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผลของการตรวจสอบภายใน ทั้ง 3 ด้าน โดยภาพรวมแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ส่วนระดับการศึกษาสูงสุดและสาขาที่จบการศึกษาของพนักงานตรวจสอบภายใน โดยภาพรวมไม่แตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ
