ประวัติตะกร้อ

ในการค้นคว้าหาหลักฐานเกี่ยวกับแหล่งกำเนิดการกีฬาตะกร้อในอดีตนั้น ยังไม่สามารถหาข้อสรุปได้อย่างชัดเจนว่ากีฬาตะกร้อนั้นกำเนิดจากที่ใด จากการสันนิษฐานคงจะได้หลายเหตุผลดังนี้

ประเทศพม่า เมื่อประมาณ พ.ศ. 2310 พม่ามาตั้งค่ายอยู่ที่โพธิ์สามต้น ก็เลยเล่นกีฬาตะกร้อกัน ซึ่งทางพม่าเรียกว่า "ชิงลง"

ทางมาเลเซียก็ประกาศว่า ตะกร้อเป็นกีฬาของประเทศมาลายูเดิมเรียกว่า ซีปักรากา (Sepak Raga) คำว่า Raga หมายถึง ตะกร้า

ทางฟิลิปปินส์ ก็นิยมเล่นกันมานานแล้วแต่เรียกว่า Sipak

พ.ศ. 2472 กีฬาตะกร้อเริ่มมีการแข่งขันครั้งแรกภายในสมาคมกีฬาสยาม

พ.ศ. 2476 สมาคมกีฬาสยามประชุมจัดร่างกติกาในการแข่งขันกีฬาตะกร้อข้ามตาข่ายและเปิดให้มีการแข่งขันในประเภทประชาชนขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรก

พ.ศ. 2479 ทางการศึกษาได้มีการเผยแพร่จัดฝึกทักษะในโรงเรียนมัธยมชายและเปิดให้มีแข่งขันด้วย

พ. ศ. 2480 ได้มีการประชุมจัดทำแก้ไขร่างกฎระเบียบให้สมบูรณ์ขึ้น โดยอยู่ในความควบคุมดูแลของ เจ้าพระยาจินดารักษ์ และกรมพลศึกษาก็ได้ออกประกาศรับรองอย่างเป็นทางการ

พ. ศ. 2502 มีการจัดการแข่งขันกีฬาแหลมทอง ครั้งที่ 1 ขึ้นที่กรุงเทพฯ มีการเชิญนักตะกร้อชาวพม่ามาแสดงความสามารถในการเล่นตะกร้อพลิกแพลง

พ. ศ. 2504 กีฬาแหลมทองครั้งที่ 2 ประเทศพม่าได้รับเกียรติให้เป็นเจ้าภาพในการแข่งขัน นักตะกร้อของไทยก็ได้ไปร่วมแสดงโชว์การเตะตะกร้อแบบพลิกแพลงด้วย

พ.ศ. 2508 กีฬาแหลมทองครั้งที่ 3 จัดขึ้นที่ประเทศมาเลเซีย ได้มีการบรรจุการเตะตะกร้อ 3 ประเภท เข้าไว้ในการแข่งขันด้วยก็คือ

- ตะกร้อวง
- ตะกร้อข้ามตาข่าย
- ตะกร้อลอดบ่วง
อีกทั้งมีการจัดประชุมวางแนวทางด้านกติกาทั้งภาษาไทยและภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อสะดวกในการเล่นและการเข้าใจของผู้ชมในส่วนรวมอีกด้วย
