รัฐบาลได้สนองรับแนวพระราชดำริในการพัฒนาและรณรงค์ใช้หญ้าแฝกตามแนวพระราชดำริโดย นายกรัฐมนตรีในฐานะประธานกรรมการพิเศษเพื่อประสานงานโครงการอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริได้มีคำสั่ง ที่ 6/2551 เรื่องแต่งตั้งคณะกรรมการพัฒนา และรณรงค์การใช้หญ้าแฝกอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ

1. กำหนดนโยบายและกรอบแนวทางการดำเนินงานพัฒนาและรณรงค์การใช้หญ้าแฝกอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ
2. พิจารณาให้ความเห็นชอบกับแผนงานและแนวทางดำเนินงานพัฒนาและรณรงค์การใช้หญ้าแฝกตามแนวพระราชดำริของหน่วยงานต่างๆ
3. อำนวยการ กำกับ ดูแลและให้คำแนะนำในการปฏิบัติ รวมทั้งแก้ไขปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการดำเนินงานพัฒนาและรณรงค์การใช้หญ้าแฝกตามแนวพระราชดำริให้แก่หน่วยงานต่าง ๆ
