สภาพเดิมเป็นวัดเก่าแก่แต่ครั้งโบราณกาล มีรากฐานอุโบสถและแท่นพระประธานซึ่งก่อด้วยศิลาแลงหันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออกตั้งอยู่บริเวณวัดด้านเหนือ ไม่ปรากฎหลักฐานว่าชื่อวัดอะไร ใครเป็นผู้สร้างและสร้างในสมัยไหน แต่มีผู้สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างมาแล้วไม่น้อยกว่า ๔๐๐ ปี จนมาถึงรัชสมัยของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวรัชกาลที่ ๔ ระหว่าง พ.ศ. ๒๓๙๔-๒๓๙๙ จึงได้มีผู้ก่อสร้างวัดขึ้นใหม่ในบริเวณที่ตั้งเดิม มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ ๒๘ ไร่เศษ
