Gelsemium elegans Benth. (Loganiaceae), Twining an Evergreen
Shrub Distributed widely in Southeast Asia, is Used As a Chinese Folk
Medicine for Treatment of Pain, spasticity, and ulcers (Editorial
Committee of Chinese Materia Medica, 1,999). In Previous phytochemical
Investigations, a number of indole alkaloids (Ponglux
et AL., the 1988th; Xu et AL., 2006; Kitajima, in 2007; Yin et AL., in 2008; Zhang
et AL., 2009a, B; Yamada et AL.,. two thousand and nine; Zhao et AL., the 2010th), some iridoids
(Takayama et AL., the 1,994th; Kogure et AL., 2008A), As Well As a
few triterpenoids a coumarin (Hua et AL., 2007th), and lignans (Hua
et. al., 2008) were isolated from G. elegans. Genus Gelsemium is a
Source of Rare iridoids with Unusual Structures (Jensen et AL.,
the 1,987th; Takayama et AL., 1 994; Kogure et AL., 2008A). Some of them
showed Marked Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) enhancement Activity,
which is of value for Generating a Great New type of Drugs aimed at
Medical Treatment for Serious neurological disorders.
