เดิมชื่อ "วัดซ่อนทอง" เป็นวัดเก่ามีมานาน สร้างขึ้นประมาณปี พ.ศ.๒๓๙๔ ไม่ทราบนามและประวัติของผู้สร้าง สันนิษฐานว่าคงเป็นผู้ที่สืบเชื้อสายมาจาก เจ้าพระยาศรีพิพัฒน์ (แพ บุนนาค) ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๔ ภายในวัดมีปูชนียวัตถุที่สำคัญคือ พระพุทธรูปหล่อด้วยโลหะทองเหลือง นามว่า หลวงพ่อเหลือ สร้างจากโลหะที่เหลือจากการหล่อพระประธาน ในปี พ.ศ.๒๔๔๕ ภายในเกศของหลวงพ่อบรรจุพระธาตุของพระอรหันต์ ๕ พระองค์ ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.๒๔๘๔ ได้เกิดสงครามโลกครั้งที่ ๒ บริเวณที่ตั้งวัดอยู่ในจุดยุทธศาสตร์ เป็นผลให้หลายส่วนของวัดได้รับความเสียหายจากแรงระเบิด แต่ปรากฏว่า หลวงพ่อเหลือ กลับไม่ได้รับความเสียหายแต่อย่างใด จึงได้รับความเลื่อมใสศรัทธาจากชาวบ้านมาโดยตลอด
