งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาฤทธิ์การต้านอนุมูลอิสระในพันธุ์ไม้หายากจำนวน 132 ชนิด โดยศึกษาเฉพาะส่วนใบของพืช สกัดด้วยเอทานอล ได้สารสกัดเอทานอลนำไปศึกษาฤทธิ์ต้านอนุมูลอิสระด้วยวิธี DPPH (free radical scavenging assay) ผลการทดสอบพบว่าสารสกัดที่แสดงฤทธิ์ต้านอนุมูลอิสระมีพืชทั้งหมด 103 ชนิด ที่แสดง % inhibition มากกว่า 50% และมี 60 ชนิด แสดงฤทธิ์ที่ดี มี % inhibition มากกว่า 90% เมื่อนำไปหาค่า IC50 พบว่า มีพืช 31 ชนิดมีค่าในช่วง 1-100 ppm พืช 15 ชนิด มีค่าในช่วง 1-50 ppm และพืช 11 ชนิด มีค่าในช่วง 1-25 ppm โดยพืช 11 ชนิด ที่แสดงความสามารถในการต้านอนุมูลอิสระดีมาก คือ กระโดน จิกน้ำ สมอไทย จันทร์กระพ้อ มะตูมแขก ตะขบไทย มะพูด กาฬพฤกษ์ ตะคร้อ ตะกู หว้า และพืชแสดงฤทธิ์ที่ดีที่สุด คือกระโดน และจิกน้ำ ซึ่งมีค่า IC50 ดังนี้ 7.010.09 และ 7.640.25 ตามลำดับ
