ก่อนปีพ.ศ. 2521 ในอำเภอหาดใหญ่มีโรง

ก่อนปีพ.ศ. 2521 ในอำเภอหาดใหญ่มีโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาที่เป็นของรัฐบาลเพียงโรงเดียวคือโรงเรียนหาดใหญ่วิทยาลัย (ญ.ว.) ต่อมาเมื่อปีพ.ศ. 2521  สภาตำบลควนลังโดยมีกำนันอิ้น วงศ์ชนะ เป็นประธานและอาจารย์เชื้อ ศรีระสันต์ เป็นเลขานุการสภาได้ประสานกับกรมสามัญศึกษาขอเปิดโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาขึ้นที่ตำบลควนลัง  โดยนายสมพร พิชญาภรณ์ ศึกษาธิการอำเภอหาดใหญ่ร่วมกับนายสมบูรณ์ ศรีสุทธิ์ ผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนหาดใหญ่วิทยาลัย ชื่อโรงเรียนในขณะนั้นว่า “โรงเรียนหาดใหญ่วิทยาลัย 2” ซึ่งมีนายสุวิทย์ ศรีทิพยราษฎร์ เป็นครูใหญ่ พ.ศ. 2523 ได้ย้ายโรงเรียนจากวัดควนลังมายังสถานที่ตั้งโรงเรียนในปัจจุบันและเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น “โรงเรียนหาดใหญ่รัฐประชาสรรค์” และในปีการศึกษา 2525 เปิดเรียนในระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย
