พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติชัยนาทมุนี

พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติชัยนาทมุนี เกิดจากการที่พระชัยนาทมุนี (นวม สุทตโต) อดีตเจ้าคณะจังหวัดชัยนาทและเจ้าอาวาสวัดพระบรมธาตุวรวิหาร ได้เก็บรักษาและรวบรวมโบราณวัตถุ ศิลปวัตถุที่พบในเขตจังหวัดชัยนาท และบริเวณใกล้เคียงไว้ในพิพิธภัณฑ์ของวัดเป็นจำนวนมาก และเพื่อเป็นประโยชน์ในการศึกษาด้านประวัติศาสตร์โบราณคดีของไทย พระชัยนาทมุนีจึงยินดีมอบโบราณวัตถุ ดังกล่าวให้เป็นสมบัติของชาติ กรมศิลปากรจึงได้จัดสร้างพิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งชาติขึ้นบริเวณใกล้กับวัดพระบรมธาตุวรวิหาร และตั้งชื่อว่าพิพิธภัณฑ์สถานแห่งชาติชัยนาทมุนี โบราณวัตถุที่สำคัญ คือพระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัย ขนาดสูงพร้อมฐาน ๘๕ เซนติเมตร หน้าตักกว้าง ๗๒ เซนติเมตร อายุสมัยเชียงแสน ราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ ๒๐ – ๒๑ ทำจากสำริดไม่ทราบประวัติที่มา นอกจากนี้ยังมีเครื่องใช้ เครื่องประดับ ปติมากรรมสมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ และทวารวดี
