คณะเกษตรศาสตร์และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ มีพันธกิจ 4 ข้อ ดังนี้


ด้านการเรียนการสอนหรือการผลิตบัณฑิตและมหาบัณฑิต เป็นภารกิจหลักสำคัญที่สำนักวิชาฯ จะต้องดำเนินการเพื่อพัฒนาความรู้ ทักษะและประสบการณ์ ให้นิสิตที่จบการศึกษาออกไปสามารถประกอบอาชีพได้ ตลอดจนการออกไปอยู่ร่วมกับสังคมได้อย่างเหมาะสม ฉะนั้นเป้าหมายที่สำคัญ คือ การเปิดหลักสูตรใหม่ และการปรับปรุงหลักสูตรเดิมให้ทันสมัย เหมาะสมกับสถานการณ์ของท้องถิ่น ประเทศและเป็นสากล การบูรณาการความรู้โดยนำผลงานวิจัยมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเรียนการสอนเพื่อเพิ่มประสบการณ์แก่ผู้เรียน รวมถึงการจัดหาเครื่องมือและอุปกรณ์การเรียนการสอนให้เพียงพอ การพัฒนาบุคลากรและการเพิ่มพูนประสบการณ์ของคณาจารย์ ซึ่งจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการถ่ายทอดความรู้ต่อไป


ด้านการวิจัย การวิจัยของคณะเกษตรศาสตร์ และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ เน้นการวิจัยแบบผสมผสานทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีการเกษตร และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ตลอดจนองค์ความรู้ทางสังคมศาสตร์และศิลปศาสตร์ อันจะสามารถนำไปพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพสูงสุดด้วยวิธีการสร้างรูปแบบการศึกษาที่เป็นแหล่งการศึกษา และวิจัยให้เป็นที่พึ่งของสังคมท้องถิ่น เพื่อการแก้ไขปัญหา รวมทั้งการดำเนินการทางวิชาการ ซึ่งมีผลทำให้มีการเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการค้นคว้าวิจัยของคณาจารย์ ให้สามารถสร้างงานวิจัยและเป็นผู้ถ่ายทอดประสบการณ์ โดยใช้ผลการวิจัยมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเรียนการสอน และการบริการวิชาการสู่ชุมชน อันจะนำไปสู่การผลิตบัณฑิตและบุคลากรที่มีคุณภาพเป็นที่ยอมรับของสังคมต่อไป


ด้านการบริการวิชาการสู่สังคม คณะเกษตรศาสตร์และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติได้สร้างกระบวนการส่งเสริมเผยแพร่ความรู้วิชาการแก่ชุมชนและหน่วยงานต่างๆ โดยเฉพาะในเขตภาคเหนือตอนบนในพื้นที่ที่รับผิดชอบ ให้มีความรู้ความสามารถและประสบการณ์ในด้านวิทยาศาสตร์เทคโนโลยีการเกษตร อุตสาหกรรมเกษตร ตลอดจนการบริหารจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติในท้องถิ่นให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น ด้วยการเพิ่มศักยภาพการบริการสังคม สร้างโปรแกรมส่งเสริมเผยแพร่อย่างเป็นรูปธรรมตามที่สังคมต้องการ โดยประสานงานกับหน่วยงานอื่นๆ รวมถึงเครือข่ายองค์การบริหารส่วนท้องถิ่นและชุมชนในระดับต่างๆ


ด้านทำนุบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรม คณะเกษตรศาสตร์และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติมีภารกิจด้านการทำนุบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งได้ดำเนินการเพื่ออนุรักษ์ศิลปวัฒนธรรมไทยให้คงอยู่สืบไป ดำเนินกิจกรรมส่งเสริมคุณธรรม จริยธรรมที่สอดคล้องกับวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น รวมทั้งการสอดแทรกในเนื้อหารายวิชา นอกจากนั้นยังได้ส่งเสริมให้นิสิตและบุคลากรมีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมการบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรมร่วมกับมหาวิทยาลัยและชุมชน อันนำไปสู่การผลิตบัณฑิตที่มีคุณภาพด้านวิชาการและมีความประพฤติเหมาะสมเป็นที่ต้องการของสังคมต่อไป
