พระบรมธาตุชเวดากอง(SHWEDAGON PAGODA) พระมหาเจดีย์ทองคำที่งดงามตั้ง เด่นเป็นสง่าอยู่ใจกลางเมืองย่างกุ้ง มีความสูงประมาณ 109 เมตร ประดิษฐานอยู่บนเนินดินที่ชื่อ “SINGUTTARA” ซึ่งมีลานรูปสี่เหลี่ยมและเป็นเนินที่สูงที่สุดในเขตปริมณฑลเมืองย่างกุ้งมีความยาว โดยรอบ ประมาณ 473 เมตร รอบฐานพระมหาเจดีย์รายล้อมไปด้วยเจดีย์องค์เล็กๆ อีกร้อยองค์ มีซุ้มประตูสี่ด้านยอดฉัตรองค์พระมหาเจดีย์ประกอบด้วยเพชรและพลอยมากมาย นับเป็นงานถาปัตยกรรมฝีมือช่างพม่าที่งดงามหาที่เปรียบมิได้ เชื่อกันว่าภายในองค์พระมหาเจดีย์ได้บรรจุเส้นพระเกศาธาตุของพระพุทธเจ้าจำนวน 8 เส้น พระมหาเจดีย์นี้ยังคงฐานะของพุทธสถานอันเป็นที่พึ่งทางใจของคนพม่า
