มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาค้นคว้า เพื่อใช้เป็นแนวทางในการปรับปรุงภายในอาคารเดิมของศูนย์ให้มีสภาพแวดล้อมภายในที่สวยงาม ทันสมัย และมีคุณภาพ เพื่อประโยชน์ในการศึกษา ค้นคว้า วิจัย การพัฒนาข้อมูลทางวิชาการด้านสังคมศาสตร์และมนุษย์ศาสตร์ รวมทั้งการให้บริการข้อมูลดังกล้าวให้เกิดประโยชน์สูงสุดแต่สาธารณชน
ศูนย์มานุษวิทยาสิรินธร เป็นศูนย์ข้อมูลด้านมานุษยวิทยาที่มีคุณภาพในระดับชาติและระดับอาเซียน เพื่อส่งเสริมให้เกิดความเข้าใจความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมและการอยู่ร่วมกันอย่างสงบสุข ศูนย์มุ่งดำเนินการและสนับสนุนการศึกษา รวบรวมและวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้านสังคม วัฒนธรรมโดยเน้นข้อมูลที่เกี่ยวกับประเทศไทยและประเทศอื่นๆในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ การสร้างและขับเคลื่อนเครือข่าย มีการวิจัยและการพัฒนาข้อมูลบริหารจัดการข้อมูลและสารสนเทศ เพื่อส่งเสริมการสร้างความรู้ เป็นแหล่งค้นคว้าและเผยแพร่ข้อมูลสารสนเทศแก่ผู้เกี่ยวข้องสู่สาธารณะ เพื่อที่จะเรียนรู้คุณค่าและความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมของมนุษย์
ด้วยเหตุนี้ผู้ศึกษาจึงเล็งเห็นความสำคัญของศูนย์ เนื่องจากอาคารที่ทำการได้ถูกเปิดใช้มาเป็นระยะเวลา 20 ปี ด้วยเวลาผ่านมาหลายปีทำให้สื่อบางอย่างล้าหลัง สภาพอาคารบางส่วนมีสภาพทรุดโทรม รวมทั้งวัสดุเฟอร์นิเจอร์ที่ใช้ตกแต่งภายในล้าสมัยและไม่เหมาะสมกัน จึงมีแนวคิดจัดทำโครงการพัฒนาศูนย์ ให้มีคุณภาพ และความทันสมัยโดยมุ่งเน้นการศึกษาปัญหาภายในอาคารและบริบทโดยรอบ ซึ่งนำไปสู่การออกแบบภายในเพื่อแก้ปัญหาการใช้งานต่างๆการจัดรูปแบบการใช้งานให้เป็นไปในทางทิศเดียวกัน และมีแนวคิดในการออกแบบได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น การออกแบบลวดลาย ผ้าทอพื้นถิ่น เน้นการใช้สีม่วง สีน้ำตาลอ่อน และสีขาว และรูปฟอร์มต่างๆในธรรมชาติ โดยนำมาตัดทอนและออกแบบใหม่ให้มีความร่วมสมัย
