ครูเป็นบุคคลที่สังคมคาดหวังว่าจะเป็นแบบอย่างที่ดีแก่ศิษย์และสังคม  ครูถือว่าเป็นบัณฑิตหรือผู้รู้  ครูจึงเป็นที่คาดหวังว่าจะมีคุณธรรมอันจะสามารถยกย่องได้ว่าเป็นบุคคลที่ควรเคารพบูชาหรือเป็นปูชนียบุคคล  ซึ่งครูควรเป็นคนดีมีศีลธรรม
