ปัจจุบันได้ดำเนินการจัดการปัญหาขยะมูลฝอยโดยมีเป้าหมายหลักในการส่งเสริม คือ สนับสนุนให้ประชาชนมีส่วนร่วมในการลดปริมาณขยะในครัวเรือนของตนเอง ด้วยวิธีการคัดแยกและนำกลับไปใช้ใหม่หรือนำไปจำหน่ายเพื่อเพิ่มรายได้ให้กับครัวเรือนของตน โดยการคัดแยกขยะออกเป็น 3 ประเภท คือ ประเภทแรก ขยะอินทรีย์ เช่น เศษอาหาร เศษพืช เป็นต้น ขยะประเภทที่ 2 คือ ขยะที่สามารถนำกลับมาใช้ประโยชน์ใหม่ได้ เช่น ขวดพลาสติก แก้ว โลหะ ถุงพลาสติก เป็นต้น และขยะประเภทที่ 3 คือ ขยะที่ไม่สามารถนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ได้หรือขยะที่เป็นอันตราย เช่น ถ่านไฟฉาย หลอดไฟ ดังนั้นเป้าหมายในการศึกษาในครั้งนี้เพื่อศึกษาการมีส่วนร่วมของชุมชนในการจัดการขยะในครัวเรือน
