การศึกษาวิจัยนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาคุณภาพน้ำทางกายภาพ และเคมีบางประการของแม่น้ำแม่ปิงจังหวัดกำแพงเพชร และเพื่อติดตามตรวจสอบและประเมินคุณภาพน้ำผิวดินของแม่น้ำปิงจังหวัดกำแพงเพชร โดยทำการเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำจากจุดเก็บตัวอย่าง 5 จุดตลอดลำน้ำ ตั้งแต่บริเวณหลังโรงพยาบาลกำแพงเพชร (จุดเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำที่ 1) บริเวณหน้าลานอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมไทย สิริจิตอุทยาน (จุดเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำที่ 2) บริเวณใต้สะพานฝั่งนครชุม (จุดเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำที่ 3) บริเวณท่าทรายเหรียญทอง (จุดเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำที่ 4) จนถึงบริเวณหลังหอศิลปะดุริยนาฎ (จุดเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำที่ 5) อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดกำแพงเพชร ในการวิจัยได้เก็บตัวอย่างน้ำในแต่ละฤดูกาล คือ ฤดูหนาว ฤดูร้อนและฤดูฝน ตั้งแต่เดือนตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2555 ถึง เดือนกันยายน พ.ศ. 2556 ใช้เวลาในการศึกษา 12 เดือน และเก็บตัวอย่าง 6 ครั้ง (2 เดือน: 1) โดยพารามิเตอร์ที่ทำการวิเคราะห์ ได้แก่ อุณหภูมิ พีเอช ปริมาณออกซิเจนละลายน้ำ บีโอดี สภาพกรด–ด่าง ความกระด้าง ปริมาณของแข็งทั้งหมด ปริมาณของแข็งละลายน้ำ ปริมาณของแข็งแขวนลอย ไนเตรท-ไนโตรเจน และออโธฟอสเฟต
