เขื่อนแม่งัดสมบูรณ์ชล เป็นเขื่อนที่สร้างขึ้นตามพระราชดำริของพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว เดิมชื่อว่า เขื่อนแม่งัด ตัวเขื่อน สร้างปิดกั้นลำน้ำแม่งัด ที่บ้านแม่วะ ตำบลช่อแล อำเภอแม่แตง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ เริ่มก่อสร้างเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2520 โดยกรมชลประทาน การก่อสร้างตัวเขื่อนแล้วเสร็จเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2528 พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานนามเขื่อนว่า เขื่อนแม่งัดสมบูรณ์ชล เมื่อวันที่ 16 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2529 และเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงประกอบพิธีเปิดเขื่อน เมื่อวันที่ 22 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2529
