วัดพระศรีมหาธาตุวรมหาวิหาร

ชาวบ้านส่วนใหญ่มักเรียกขานกันว่า วัดใหญ่ หรือวัดพระศรี กันจนติดปาก แม้นพระประธานองค์ใหญ่ที่ประดิษฐานในวิหารคือ พระพุทธชินราช ชาวเมืองพิษณุโลกก็นิยมเรียกกันว่า หลวงพ่อใหญ่ ตามไปด้วย วัดใหญ่นับเป็นพระอารามหลวงที่สำคัญของจังหวัด เพราะเป็นศูนย์รวมทางจิตใจของชาวเมืองและชาวไทยทั้งประเทศ ตั้งอยู่ที่ถนนพุทธบูชา ตำบลในเมือง ริมแม่น้ำน่านฝั่งตะวันออก สร้างขึ้นพร้อมกับการสร้างเมืองเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 1900


พระพุทธชินราช เป็นพระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัยขนาดใหญ่ หล่อด้วยทองสัมฤทธิ์ ขนาดหน้าตักกว้าง 5 ศอก 1 คืบ 5 นิ้ว และสูง 7 ศอก ได้รับการกล่าวขานว่าเป็นพระพุทธรูปที่มีพุทธลักษณะงดงามที่สุดในประเทศ เส้นรอบนอกพระวรกายอ่อนช้อย พระขนงโก่ง พระเกตุมาลาเป็นเปลวเพลิง พระหัตถ์มีปลายนิ้วทั้งสี่เสมอกัน ซึ่งเป็นลักษณะพิเศษเรียกว่า ทีฒงฺคุลี ซุ้มเรือนแก้วทำด้วยไม้แกะสลักสร้างในสมัยอยุธยา แกะสลักเป็นรูปมกร (ลำตัวคล้ายมังกร มีงวงคล้ายช้าง) อยู่ตรงปลายซุ้ม และตัวเหรา (คล้ายจระเข้) อยู่ตรงกลาง และมีเทพอสุราคอยปกป้ององค์พระอยู่ 2 องค์ พระมหาธรรมราชาที่ 1 (พญาลิไท) แห่งกรุงสุโขทัย โปรดให้สร้างขึ้นพร้อมกับพระพุทธชินสีห์และพระศรีศาสดา ซึ่งปัจจุบันประดิษฐานอยู่ที่วัดสุทัศน์เทพวรารามและวัดบวรนิเวศวิหารตามลำดับ


บานประตูประดับมุก ที่ทางเข้าพระวิหารด้านหน้า สร้างขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2299 เป็นฝีมือช่างหลวงสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย ในรัชสมัยของสมเด็จพระบรมโกศ ตรงกลางประตูมีสันอกเลาประดับลวดลายพุ่มข้าวบิณฑ์ สองข้างเป็นลายกนกก้านแย่ง ช่วงกลางอกเลามีรูปสี่เหลี่ยมขนมเปียกปูน เรียกว่า นมอกเลา เป็นรูปบุษบก มีรูปพระอุณาโลมซึ่งเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของพระพุทธองค์ประดิษฐานบนบัลลังก์อยู่ในบุษบก สองข้างเป็นรูปชุมสายซึ่งเป็นเครื่องสูงชนิดหนึ่ง เป็นรูปฉัตรสามชั้น ใต้ฐานบุษบกมีหนุมานแบกฐานไว้ ส่วนเชิงล่างของอกเลาทำเป็นรูปกุมภัณฑ์ยืนถือกระบองท่าสำแดงฤทธิ์ ส่วนลวดลายบานประตูเป็นลายกนกที่มีภาพสัตว์หิมพานต์ เช่น ราชสีห์ คชสีห์ เหมราช ครุฑ กินรีรำ และภาพสัตว์อื่น ๆ และยังมีลาย อีแปะ ด้านละ 9 วงมัดนกหูช้างประกอบช่องไฟระหว่างวงกลม หรือวงกลมเป็นลายกรุยเชิง มีลายประจำยามก้ามปูประดับขอบรอบบานประตู เดิมบานประตูวิหารพระพุทธชินราชทำด้วยไม้สักแกะสลัก เมื่อทำบานประตูประดับมุกเสร็จแล้ว บานประตูเก่าได้นำไปประดับประตูวิหารพระแท่นศิลาอาสน์ จังหวัดอุตรดิตถ์

พระอัฏฐารส เป็นพระพุทธรูปยืนปางห้ามญาติด้านหลังพระวิหาร สูง 18 ศอก สร้างในสมัยเดียวกับพระพุทธชินราช ราว พ.ศ. 1811 เดิมประดิษฐานอยู่ในวิหารใหญ่แต่วิหารได้พังไปจนหมด เหลือเพียงเสาที่ก่อด้วยศิลาแลงขนาดใหญ่ 3-4 ต้น เรียกว่า เนินวิหารเก้าห้อง
