การวิจัยเชิงพรรณนาครั้งนี้ได้บูรณาการกับรายวิชาการพยาบาลบุคคลที่มีปัญหาสุขภาพ 1 สำหรับนักศึกษาพยาบาลศาสตร์ ชั้นปีที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2557 มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองของผู้สูงอายุที่เป็นโรคข้อเข่าเสื่อม กลุ่มตัวอย่างเลือกแบบเจาะจง เป็นผู้สูงอายุโรคข้อเข่าเสื่อมในจังหวัดอุตรดิตถ์ เก็บข้อมูลระหว่างเดือนพฤศจิกายน 2557 ถึงเดือนมกราคม 2558 จำนวน 150 ราย เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้คือ แบบสัมภาษณ์ข้อมูลทั่วไป แบบสัมภาษณ์พฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเอง ซึ่งสร้างขึ้นตามแนวคิดทฤษฎีของโอเร็ม ใช้วิธีการตรวจสอบความเที่ยงตรงเชิงเนื้อหาของเครื่องมือจากผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ ได้ค่าดัชนีความตรงของเนื้อหาของแบบสัมภาษณ์พฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเอง เท่ากับ .92 ตรวจสอบความเชื่อมั่นของแบบสัมภาษณ์พฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองโดยใช้สูตรสัมประสิทธิ์อัลฟาของครอนบราค ได้ค่าความเชื่อมั่นเท่ากับ .90 วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้การแจกแจงความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย และส่วนเบี่บงเบนมาตรฐาน ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลพบว่า ผู้สูงอายุที่เป็นโรคข้อเข่าเสื่อมมีพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองโดยรวมในระดับปานกลาง และพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองรายด้าน คือ ด้านพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองโดยทั่วไป ด้านพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองตามระยะพัฒนาการ และด้านพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองตามภาวะเบี่ยงเบนทางสุขภาพ อยู่ในระดับปานกลางทั้ง 3 ด้าน ผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้ เป็นข้อมูลพื้นฐานที่สามารถนำไปกำหนดแนวทางในการวางแผนเพื่อส่งเสริมให้ผู้สูงอายุที่เป็นโรคข้อเข่าเสื่อมมีพฤติกรรมการดูแลตนเองที่ดีขึ้นต่อไป
