ในโรงงานผลิตพริกแกงแห่งหนึ่ง ในจังหวัดเชียงราย พบว่ามีกำลังการผลิตพริกแกงอยู่ที่ 95 กิโลกรัม/วัน ความต้องการของลูกค้าอยู่ที่ 190 กิโลกรัม/วัน ทำให้ผู้ประกอบการสูญเสียโอกาสทางการขายอยู่ที่ 95 กิโลกรัม/วัน คิดเป็นมูลค่า 5,625 บาท/วัน สาเหตุการสูญเสียโอกาสในการขาย คือ ใช้ระยะเวลาในการบดพริกแกงนาน เพื่อให้พริกแกงมีความละเอียดตามความต้องการของลูกค้า ผู้วิจัยจึงมีแนวคิดในการลดมูลค่าการสูญเสียโอกาสในการขาย และลดเวลาในการบดพริกแกง ด้วยการสร้างเครื่องบดพริกแกงแบบหินบด โดยการประยุกต์ใช้ทฤษฎีสถิติวิศวกรรม การวิจัยดำเนินงาน การศึกษางาน และการออกแบบเครื่องจักรกล เพื่อลดระยะเวลาในการทำงาน จากผลการทดลองโดยการใช้เครื่องบดพริกแกงแบบหินบด สามารถเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในการบดพริกแกงจากการใช้เครื่องจักรแบบเดิม ซึ่งผลิตได้ 95 กิโลกรัม/วัน เป็น175 กิโลกรัม/วัน เพิ่มขึ้น 80 กิโลกรัม/วัน คิดเป็น 89.47 เปอร์เซ็นต์ ลดการเสียโอกาสการขายของผู้ประกอบการได้ประมาณ 4,882 บาท/วัน คิดเป็นมูลค่า 97,648 บาท/เดือน
