ตำบลท่าม่วงเดิมเป็นหมู่บ้านขึ้นกับตำบลทุ่งวัง เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2523 ได้แยกตัวออกมาเป็นตำบลท่าม่วง มี 10 หมู่บ้าน และในปี พ.ศ. 2539 ได้แยกหมู่บ้านเพิ่มเป็น 11 หมู่บ้าน มีจำนวนหลังคาเรือนทั้งสิ้น 1,086 หลังคาเรือน

ประวัติความเป็นมา
ตำบลชุมแสง เดิมอยู่ในการปกครองของตำบลหนองใหญ่ อำเภอสตึก จังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2524 ได้แยกออกมาเป็นตำบลชุมแสง โดยมีหมู่บ้านในปกครองจำนวน 10 หมู่บ้าน ต่อมาเมื่อประชากรเพิ่มมากขึ้น จึงได้ขยายเป็น 18 หมู่บ้าน มีนายเสาร์ เกียรติเจริญศิริ เป็นกำนัน "ชุมแสง" เป็นชื่อเรียกตามสภาพที่ตั้งของตำบล ซึ่งมีหนองน้ำใหญ่ทางทิศตะวันออกของหมู่บ้าน มีต้นกันแสงขึ้นอยู่หนาแน่น จีงเรียกว่า หนองกันแสง ต่อมาได้เพี้ยนเป็น "ชุมแสง" จนถึงปัจจุบัน
