ประวัติ วัดไชยวัฒนารามบางครั้งเรียก

ประวัติ
วัดไชยวัฒนารามบางครั้งเรียกว่า “วัดไชยยาราม” และ “วัดไชยชนะทาราม”
เป็นพระอารามหลวงในสมัยอยุธยา ซึ่งเป็นวัดที่สมเด็จพระเจ้าปราสาททอง โปรดให้วัดไชยวัฒนาราม ตั้งอยู่ที่ ต.บ้านป้อม อ.พระนครศรีอยุธยา ซึ่งก็ตั้งอยู่ริม แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา
ทางฝั่งตะวันตกของเกาะเมือง วัดไชยวัฒนาราม เป็นวัดหนึ่ง ที่มีสถาปัตยกรรมการก่อสร้าง
ไม่เหมือนวัดอื่นๆ ใน อยุธยา และเนื่องจากกรมศิลปากรได้ดำเนินการบูรณะตลอดมาจนปัจจุบัน

แต่ละชั้น เป็นลวดลาย ใบขนุน กลีบขนุน ส่วนบนสุดเป็นทรงดอกบัวตูม ปรางค์แบบนี้
มีลักษณะเหมือน ปรางค์ในสมัย อยุธยาตอนต้น ซึ่ง วัดไชยวัฒนารามนั้น สร้างในสมัย
อยุธยาตอนกลาง จึงอาจกล่าวได้ว่าเป็นการนำเอาพระปรางค์ที่นิยมสร้างในสมัยอยุธยา
ตอนต้นมาก่อสร้างอีกครั้งหนึ่ง


-ปรางค์ประธาน วัดไชยวัฒนาราม-

ปรางค์บริวาร คือปรางค์องค์เล็กลงมาที่อยู่รายล้อม ปรางค์ประธาน มีทั้งหมด 4 องค์
ลักษณะจะเพรียวกว่า ปรางค์ ประธาน

เมรุ คืออาคารทรงยอด แหลมที่อยู่รายรอบระเบียงคด ทั้ง 8 ทิศ ภายในคูหาจะประดิษฐาน
พระพุทธรูปทรงเครื่อง ปางมารวิชัย เอาไว้ที่เมรุทิศ เมรุละ 1 องค์ เมรุมุม เมรุละ 2องค์
ภายในคูหา มีภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง หลงเหลือร่องรอยอยู่เล็กน้อย

ระเบียงคด คือส่วนที่เชื่อมต่อ ระหว่างเมรุแต่ละเมรุเอาไว้ โดยรอบฐานประทักษิณ
ซึ่งแต่เดิมจะมีหลังคารอบๆ ที่บริเวณระเบียงคดนี้ จะมีพระพุทธรูป ปางมารวิชัย
ประดิษฐานอยู่ รวมทั้งหมด 120 องค์ แกนในทำจากไม้ พอกปูนทีละชั้นจนได้สัดส่วน
ส่วนนิ้ว ใช้โลหะสำริด ดัดขึ้นรูป ปัจจุบันเหลือที่ยังมีพระเศียร อยู่ 2 องค์

พระอุโบสถ อยู่ทางด้านทิศตะวันออกนอก ระเบียงคด มีซากพระประธานปางสมาธิ
ประดิษฐานอยู่บนฐานชุกชี สถาพปัจจุบันเหลือเพียงฐานเสาอุโบสถ และรอยฐานเสมา
